Contact Lens Fitting

A contact lens fitting is needed to determine a contact lens prescription. This service can be added to any comprehensive eye exam. A contact lens is a medical device that sits on a very sensitive part of human tissue, called the cornea. If a lens does not fit your eye well, is not cared for properly, or is made of a material that is not breathable enough for your cornea, this can result in a wide range of complications from eye infections to blindness.

How to Choose Contact Lens?

Contact lens has 3 main parameters that are finalised during a fitting:

  • Base Curve: this ensures that the contact lens’ shape fits the curve of the front surface of your eye
  • Power: most of the time, the power of a contact lens differs from the glasses prescription
  • Material/Brand: the material must be the most comfortable, moist, and breathable for your eyes which will determine the brand prescribed

Orthokeratology

If you are interested in reducing your day-time dependence on glasses and contact lens without having to undergo surgery, then these lenses are your best option. Ortho-k is an individually designed contact lens you wear overnight. While you are asleep, it gently reshapes the front surface of your eye, so you can wake up seeing clearly the next morning. The principle is similar to the use of a dental retainer used by an orthodontist to realign crooked teeth. These lenses are also known as CRT lens or Corneal Refractive Therapy. Ask us if you would be a good candidate.

Scleral Contact Lens

If you have tried soft or hard lens in the past without satisfactory vision, then scleral lens may be an option for you. These are large-diameter lens specially designed to vault over the entire corneal surface and rest on the white part of the eye – the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is much less sensitive than the cornea making scleral lens extremely more comfortable while providing exceptional visual acuity. These lenses are especially great since they have been approved by the FDA for treating severe dry eye conditions.

Duette Hybrid Contact Lens

These lenses have taken the advanced optical vision we get from gas permeable lens and blended them with the comfort of soft lens. Hybrids are great for patients with higher refractive errors, such as myopia or astigmatism. We recommend this lens for patients with significant amounts of astigmatism, who are not able to achieve clear persistent vision with regular soft lens.  They are individually ordered for your parameters achieving superior vision, decreased fluctuations, and increased comfort.

Special Eyes Custom Soft Lens

This is a great option when soft in-office lens doesn’t work out. Not all soft lens comes in the unique parameters of your eyes. These soft lenses can be individually made to fit your exact refractive parameter. They have the comfort of soft contact lens with the crisp, clear vision we expect to have.

Multifocal Contact Lens

We offer a wide variety of multifocal options to obtain clear comfortable vision at distance, as well as near. We pick the lens modality that best suits your activities of daily living while maintaining comfort. All of the lenses mentioned above can also be used as a multifocal as well.
